CharGen Pixel Sprites adds frame previews and expands custom moves

The October 25 update adds playback controls and orders of up to ten moves. GIFs and PNG frame strips carry the results into chats, virtual tabletops and game prototypes; each move costs 10 Gold.

Who should pay attention

For creators turning a character portrait into short action loops for tabletop sessions or 2D prototypes.

CharGen added an editor to Pixel Sprites on October 25, letting creators pause a character's action and inspect it frame by frame. The update follows the portrait-to-sprite feature introduced on October 22. It gives tabletop creators and 2D prototypers more control over reviewing short character loops before downloading them.

Preview a move, or describe your own

The editor offers half-speed and double-speed playback, frame stepping and background choices. Sprites can be filtered by their existing folder or campaign. An order now accepts up to ten moves, including actions written in your own words.

The public Pixel Sprites page has fifteen example characters. Start from a portrait, upload a picture or describe a character. Presets include Idle, Attack and Cast; a typed instruction can request something more specific, such as pouring a drink.

Downloads include looping GIFs, Discord emojis and a PNG strip containing eight frames for game engines. For a 2D prototype, the strip can supply an action's frames; playback timing, pivots and collision still need to be set up in the project.

A still sprite is free; animated moves use Gold

Each move costs 10 Gold, including a custom move. The eight preset moves cost 80 Gold together. The base sprite is a still image and is free, as are downloads; an Idle loop also uses 10 Gold. A failed move returns its Gold.

Current pricing gives free accounts 10 Gold per daily visit, accumulating up to 100. Creating a portrait from a description is a separate generation charge, so those credits cover fewer actions if a new portrait is needed first.
