Roblox TTS adds automatic translation for NPC dialogue and narration
AutoLocalize now translates dynamically generated speech into each player’s language across 11 supported languages. Saved audio assets remain outside this release.

For Roblox developers localizing dynamic NPC dialogue, quest prompts and narration.
Roblox announced automatic translation for its text-to-speech API on October 8. NPC dialogue and narration generated dynamically with AudioTextToSpeech can now follow each player's language setting. The feature covers 11 languages, including Mandarin Chinese.
AutoLocalize is enabled by default
The new AudioTextToSpeech.AutoLocalize property defaults to true. Roblox detects the input language and, when it differs from the player's language and both are supported, translates the text before selecting a suitable preset voice.
According to Roblox, the selected voice will retain similar characteristics where possible: an English female voice, for example, maps to a female voice in another language. That is not a promise of an identical voice across languages.
The current API reference lists Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish. Developers can disable AutoLocalize when they need the original language.
Saved audio assets are outside this release
Automatic translation currently applies to dynamic AudioTextToSpeech output. Audio assets previously generated through TTS remain outside its scope; asset translation is listed as future work. Enabling the property does not localize an existing voice-over library.
Integration uses Roblox's existing audio objects. For 2D narration, the TTS documentation connects AudioTextToSpeech to AudioDeviceOutput through a Wire, carrying generated speech to the player's speakers or headphones.
Request limits still matter. The current API documentation caps text at 300 characters per request. The default experience-wide allowance is 1 + 6 × concurrent users requests per minute, with a separate client limit of four requests per second per user. Paid additional usage is available through Extended Services, subject to its age, identity-verification and supported-country requirements.
For Roblox games with dynamic NPC conversations, quest prompts or narrated tutorials, this provides a built-in route to speech in the player's language. Fixed voice-over assets still need their own localization workflow.
